Højlund’s Goal Drought Sparks Frustration at Manchester United
Manchester United is growing increasingly impatient with Rasmus Højlund’s attacking struggles, as the Danish striker has failed to help the team get back on track since his arrival at Old Trafford.
Frustration Within the Coaching Staff
According to Manchester Evening News, a United coaching staff member expressed deep frustration with Højlund’s performance during the team’s recent 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
In the following match, Manchester United narrowly avoided defeat against Everton, coming back from 0-2 down to secure a 2-2 draw—a turnaround that coincided with Højlund being substituted, further raising doubts about his impact on the team.
Declining Attacking Numbers
Since Portuguese manager Rúben Amorim took charge in November, Højlund has completed just five full matches, while being substituted in ten other appearances.
On the goal-scoring front, Højlund has netted only seven goals across all competitions this season, with just two in the Premier League. Most concerning is that the former Atalanta striker has failed to score in his last 16 matches, a major factor in United’s drop to 15th place in the Premier League standings.
Amorim Exploring Alternatives
Frustrated with Højlund’s form, Amorim has turned to the youth squad in search of alternatives. In the recent Everton match, he opted to introduce Chido Obi as a substitute instead of Højlund, signaling a clear lack of confidence in the Danish forward.
Transfer Fee Under Scrutiny
Manchester United signed Højlund for £72 million from Atalanta in the summer of 2023, according to The Daily Mail. With his ongoing struggles, the deal is now facing serious scrutiny, as the club’s management seeks solutions to end their attacking woes.
